Canstruction® is a unique nonprofit organization which hosts competitions, exhibitions, and events showcasing colossal structures made entirely out of full cans of food. After the structures are built, the creations are on display for the public as a giant art exhibition. At the end of the viewing, all food is donated to local food banks. Founded in 1992, Canstruction competitions are held annually in over 150 cities around the world raising millions of pounds of food. Canstruction’s mission is to provide hunger relief assistance by collecting canned food for distribution to local food banks while promoting the design/build industry. Since 1992, these competitions have raised over 20 million pounds of food to feed the hungry.

Pickering Associates has been participating in Canstruction WV since 2012, collecting and donating thousands of cans of food each year. For the 2019 Canstruction event, our team was fortunate to donate 5,000 cans for this event. Due to everyone’s generous donations and efforts, our structure received three awards this year. The awards included Most Cans, Best Original Design, and People’s Choice!
