Automation and Controls is a rare field in a design firm. The tasks performed by this discipline are often overlooked. However, as a full-service firm, Pickering Associates is one of the only firms in the state of West Virginia alone that offer this specialty service. Our staff works closely with our internal departments and outside vendors to stay up to date on the latest trends and applications used in both industrial and commercial businesses. At Pickering Associates automation and controls is within our electrical engineering department and the two departments intertwine with dual and specialty engineers to make sure that we provide the highest quality design and insight to every project. When Pickering Associates states that we offer full-service, we mean full-service right down to the light switches.

Automation and controls engineering design is all about the small details that often go unnoticed – from the thermostats to light switches and all the various other automated functions in a building. Our design professionals are responsible for working with the electrical design and making sure that different control feature devices will be compatible with the various central systems of a building, such as HVAC or power. For example, instead of going to the actual furnace and changing the temperature gauge to 70 degrees our design professionals have found a thermostat that is a touch screen operated and compatible with the furnace to adjust the temperature remotely. Though that is just one of many examples, automating and controlling a facility is just another of the many ways Pickering Associates works to meet the needs of our client’s.
