Pickering Associates would like to congratulate the Lincolnway Special Recreation Association (LWSRA) and Olivieri Brothers, Inc. on the successful completion of the Lincolnway Special Recreation Center located in New Lenox, IL. The facility celebrated its grand opening on June 21st and is the first recreation center for persons with special needs operated by a Special Recreation Association in Illinois. Olivieri Brothers, Inc. was hired as the Architect and Construction Manager to bring the project to completion. Christopher Algmin (Architect formerly with Olivieri Brothers, now with Pickering Associates), was on hand for the Grand Opening. “There were several unique features incorporated to make the building adaptable to persons with different needs. I’m glad to see the final building in use and hear the participants’ praise for the facility.”

The day’s events included the ribbon cutting ceremony, tours of the program spaces and facility offerings. The 17,000 SF building features a learning kitchen, classroom space, weight room, multi-purpose activity rooms, and full gymnasium. In the gym, the batting cage, volleyball nets, and basketball goals are all ceiling mounted and motorized so that anyone can quickly change the equipment to suit the event. Several athletic events featuring the various LWSRA Falcon teams also took place during the festivities.

The LWSRA is a non-profit organization that serves member park districts in the area, specifically, New Lenox, Frankfort, Mokena, Manhattan, Peotone, and Wilmington Island. According to Algmin “The project is a culmination of effort from many people and volunteers, and Olivieri Brothers did an excellent job guiding the project to completion. The LWSRA organization,  the board of directors and foundation, should be very proud of their new facility.”
