Pickering’s very own Nick Arnold, BIM Coordinator, celebrated his 10-year Intern-iversary this past week. Ten years ago, Nick became an intern here at Pickering Associates and has been with the company ever since. When asked about this experience, Nick was kind enough to share a few words with us about his journey with Pickering.

“If someone had told me as an intern here back in 2008 that, just a decade later, I would be helping our project teams 3D scan buildings or print 3D models of their designs instead of doing all of that by hand the traditional ways, I’d have thought they were joking. The progress made in digital Architecture & Engineering technology over the last ten years is astonishing. Even as I carry out my work here today, Pickering Associates is exploring ways of incorporating another new technology, Virtual Reality, into our project workflows. To be part of a local firm’s leadership team tasked with implementing all this cutting-edge technology in the Mid-Ohio Valley is quite an honor. I’m so glad I found a place where I can contribute my skills and interests in technology, sustainability and architecture locally.

Our area has really turned into quite the innovative, entrepreneurial hub. It truly is a group effort to stay on top of emerging technology. I’ve had the pleasure of witnessing numerous summer research initiatives completely transform the way we do business here at Pickering, all thanks to the talented interns and guidance they receive from our company’s leadership. The internship program is such an important part of our core mission to spread design knowledge and offer unique opportunities to the youth of our area. It’s our social responsibility as builders of the physical environment to guide how our future generations will interact with the buildings and spaces we design today. Pouring our knowledge and experiences into local students is imperative.

A decade ago, that same internship program here at Pickering Associates totally changed the course of my career. I’ve been so blessed to be surrounded by talented teammates and supportive managers along my journey. It’s absolutely shaped the way I see our community and it continues to motivate me to engage in local design challenges both inside and outside our company.

It’s a wonderful privilege to be able to continue this legacy among our talented team here today and I look forward to working with our new lineup of interns that started this week.”
