Canstruction

Pickering Associates is proud to announce the successful completion of the 2014 Canstruction design and build challenge in Charleston, WV.  The Pickering Associates team finished with the Structural Ingenuity award that will now enter the ‘Racing Hunger’ structure into the international Canstruction competition.

The Pickering Associates design and theme centered on DreamWorks’ major motion picture, Turbo.  Weighing in at over two tons, Turbo used a collective 5,085 food items.  Over 1,000 cans of hearty pasta gave Turbo a sleek, aerodynamic body.  The snail’s spoiler consisted of 468 cans of beans and chili.  Lastly, the Pickering Associates team constructed a checkered flag wall that (when viewed from the back) displayed a gold trophy!

Canstruction is a national nonprofit organization that hosts competitions, exhibitions and events showcasing colossal structures made entirely from full cans of food for the public to view and vote on.  At the end of the viewing, all the food is donated to local food banks.  The 2014 Canstruction event in Charleston, WV was hosted by AIA West Virginia and The Covenant House.

Pickering Associates is in the heart of the Mid-Ohio Valley and committed to the community.  While official contest rules stated all food used in the competition would be donated to The Covenant House in Charleston, Pickering Associates brought home half of their food items to give to five food banks in the Parkersburg/Marietta area.
