Only five months after a fire destroyed one of the few grocery stores in St. Marys, Galaxy Food Center is breaking ground on their new facility.  Pickering Associates is providing the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering for the new store that boasts increased square footage and an area where patrons can sit and enjoy a meal.

“We’re thrilled to be trusted with the engineering for the Galaxy Food Center project,” explains Zac Campbell, PMP, and Electrical and Controls Engineering Department Manager with Pickering Associates.  “As members of this community, we understand how important the Edwards family and their store is, and we’re humbled to have such an important role in the rebuilding.”

If you ask Bill Edwards, the patriarch of the family business, there was never a question as to whether or not Galaxy would come back. “There was never a doubt about what we were going to do,’ Edwards says.  “I was talking to a fireman, during the fire, and I said ‘it’s gone, isn’t it’ and he said ‘yeah, it’s a total loss.’  Right then, my decision was made, before I could walk from the back of the lot to the front.”

“In April, this area lost a substantial resource,” says Erin Iafelice-McCullough, sales and marketing director at Pickering Associates.  “We’re exceptionally pleased to be able to have a hand in bringing it back.  In choosing Pickering Associates, the Edwards family showed they take their commitment to St. Marys seriously, and we will provide them the very best engineering.”
