Project Description

Bridge Design

Pickering Associates was contacted by Eureka Hunter Pipeline, L.L.C. to develop a bridge design package that facilitated construction of a bridge substructure, approaches, and the erection of a prefabricated superstructure.  The project consisted of four phases and was completed on time and within the allocated budget.

In Phase One, Pickering Associates engineers reviewed proposed project drawings, preformed a preliminary site investigation, coordinated with the project surveyor regarding the general design, and coordinated with the project geotechnical engineer regarding general design information. Phase One also included determining a maximum of two bridge configuration alternates and reporting the conceptual cost estimates of each.  Pickering Associates also provided engineering support for the preparation of permit applications, coordination with local authorities, and acquisitions of permits. Lastly, our engineers preformed a flood study to determine the impact of the proposed bridge in accordance with Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Phase Two of the project consisted of Pickering Associates working with Eureka Hunter Pipeline, L.L.C to determine the design loads, volume, service life, and other specific criteria. Our engineers then prepared the construction drawings of the substructure and approaches and prepared the criteria for the design of the bridge superstructure, which was performed by the fabricator.

Pickering Associates then moved into Phase Three of the project which was centered on bidding assistance. Our firm prepared bid documents including Invitation to Bid, Bid Form, General Conditions, etc. We assisted with advertising, prepared agendas, attended/directed pre-bid meeting, and created meeting minutes. Lastly, Pickering Associates assisted with the evaluation of contractor bids and assisted the development of the Owner-Contractor agreement.

Phase Four of this project consisted of Construction Administration. Pickering Associates attended bi-weekly construction meetings, provided on-site construction inspection and maintained the construction schedule. The firm also reviewed contractor submittals, provided construction assistance by responding to contractor questions, creating meeting minutes/field reports, and creating change orders as necessary. Pickering Associates attended a final ‘walk-thru’ of the project and helped create a punch list. Finally, the firm assisted Eureka Hunter Pipeline, L.L.C. with all project close out documents.
