Pickering Associates partnered with Phoenix Associates to design a 5,000 SF second floor office space in Downtown Parkersburg, WV. The client needed an open area renovation for an additional work facility.
Within the existing second story space, Pickering Associates sought to create eight offices, conference rooms, a staff break room, two toilets, and other employee support spaces all within an open area design. The accessible elevator was added by Pickering Associates previously, to make the building ADA compliant, which became the center of this project layout.
“The space itself was very inspiring,” said Lindsay Brown, Interior Designer. “Exposed brick walls, expansive windows that let in natural light, warm wood tones, and high ceilings – does it get much better? It’s a dream to get to work on a space so rich in character! I knew we would be able to make this office space unlike any other, and am thrilled with how everything came together.”
Lindsay worked with the client to design a space that reflected the culture and history of the organization. “What I loved about working on this project was that so many existing pieces of furniture and decor have unique and meaningful stories. It was a pleasure to get to ensure these pieces were featured in their new space and given due attention.”
Being part of the city’s past, the client thought it would be best to keep the original, exposed brick walls within the establishment. The open ceiling approach was another detail added to commemorate the structure’s sense of antiquity, along with the craftsman style designed pillars and windows.
“My favorite feature that we as a firm introduced would be the new LED lights,” said Lindsay. “They are so unique, just like the space itself, and bring an element of modernity to the overall design.”
Pickering Associate’s team of professionals, who had the wonderful opportunity to work on this beautiful space for an incredibly deserving organization, included Traci Stotts and the Architectural Department, Lindsay Brown as Interior Designer, Jeff Hosek, PE, Dave Boggs , PE, and Zac Campbell, PMP.
